Field Studies - Iceland

In 2013 and 2018 we travelled to Skagafjord in northern Iceland with the ARCH Network to study the world heritage of turf building, which reached its greatest sophistication in Iceland over a thousand years until it ceased as a living tradition very recently. The country now faces the challenge of sustaining turf buildings as a museum culture, while acting as a reservoir of skill and knowledge for regenerative projects in Scotland and elsewhere.
