Arc Architects

Big Green Tarbert (BGT) is a Community led project in Tarbert, Loch Fyne. Arc was invited to develop energy saving advice for householders of the type of properties typical to West Coast Scotland. Many of these house types are not covered by standard government grants or advice, but form a large part of the Scottish housing stock. These include solid wall stone houses, homes with ‘rooms in the roof’ and combed ceiling spaces.

Arc and BGT developed an ‘energy efficiency guide for householders’ providing guidance for 5 of the most common house types in the area. Upgrade measures are divided into 3 categories -  ‘free and easy’ ‘ low cost and DIY’ and ‘investment’ with cost and carbon savings for each measure..

The full guide is published here. The guidance documents and research were presented at the Sustainable Uist ‘Hard to Treat Housing’ Conference in January 2011.

The project was funded by the Climate Challenge Fund
