Sunnybank was an old and dilapidated 18th century cottage, typical of Fife villages, which had been roughly altered in the 1970’s. A year’s hard work transformed it into a comfortable and low maintenance home for a local couple’s retirement.

The design carefully retained much of the character of the original cottage, creating a sequence of private spaces with good natural daylight.  Modern comforts include high levels of insulation, easily cleaned finishes and a mechanical ventilation heat recovery system.

A small porch extension frames a small sunny garden, with fine views down the Brae from which the cottage takes its name. Closely involved in the project, the Clients limewashed the outside themselves in the ochre colour that is traditional to Fife.
