ribbon stair and double height sitting room

The brief for this project was to create a modern and light space for our Clients to enjoy either themselves or with visitors, whilst retaining the character of the old building. The main public spaces are airy and open, contrasting with the more private qualities of the existing smaller rooms.

There are glimpsed views of the sea from the house. These inspired Arc to create a series of carefully framed views both within and to the outside to create variety of intimate and expansive spaces in the same volume, paying close attention to the relationship of spaces to each other. The levels of the house are drawn together by two ribbon stairs flowing vertically, providing a strong visual and literal connection between the public rooms.

The extensive renovation has been carried out sensitively internally and externally, using low processed environmentally friendly materials, locally sourced where possible.
