This complex project converted a disused Byre adjoining a listed farmhouse into a large family kitchen, reinstating its traditional external appearance. Inside, light from the small windows is reflected off new finishes to create a modern feel in an ancient space.

A new entrance and garden room were created in front of the Byre, contained in a curvaceous building joined to the byre with a minimal glass link.

Outside, the garden room is clad with heather thatch, creating the impression of an inhabited hedge or Victorian summerhouse.

Inside, the curving walls are finished with natural clay plaster, creating a calm, contemplative, intimate space that contrasts with the open and lively Byre kitchen.
