Tom recently attended the Scottish Green Awards 2011 held in Glasgow. To his amazement we won the prize for Best Green Community-Initiative (sponsored by SEPA) as Director of the North Howe Transition Toun.

We have moved to our newly refurbished office in Cupar. This provides a bigger and better working environment, as well as being more conveniently located for access by train. Completion and Publication!

Arc has developed 6 case studies for homeowner energy efficiency measures, with the Big Green Tarbert project. This ranges from free and easy do through to major overhauls and covers a range of typical house types including 'hard to treat' types. They are published here

Developing Solutions for 'hard to treat' housing upgrade

 

Arc has been invited to deliver a paper on Arc's work at the 'Sustainable Uist' Conference at the end of January. This looks at energy efficiency and carbon saving programmes for typical Scottish housing, in particular, hard to treat properties, that are common house types not covered by standard government initiatives.

Arc wins the VIBES
Arc scooped two prestigious environmental business awards at the 2010 Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) Awards ceremony in Glasgow.

Arc won the Best Service Award and the Scottish Government sponsored VIBES Special Award for Energy Efficiency, which aims to reward businesses that have made the biggest steps in cutting their energy use and CO2 emissions.

Arc staff are attending the UK's first 'Certified EU Passive House Designer' course at Strathclyde University in November. This is the first of these courses to be run in the English language and is attended by leaders in the field from across Europe.

Our flagship conservation project last year, the restoration of the 'A' listed mudwall Schoolhouse at Logie in Angus prestigious Europa Nostra, the EU Prize for Cultural Heritage. One of only 28 projects across Europe, the award recognises outstanding quality of conservation work and the contribution to the local community through a series of workshops and masterclasses.

Arc has secured Planning Permission for our Client to build a new low energy sustainable house in south Perthshire. The house is of contemporary design and is predicted to use only 20% of the energy a standard new build house would consume.

The Logie Schoolhouse project is nearing completion, to be opened by the Earl of Airlie on Wednesday 26th September.
There will be a public lecture about the project held by the Montrose Society on Thursday 18th September at 7.30pm

Construction has started on a refurbishment project of an old manse in Fife. Working with the existing structure it will transform part of the building, bringing in light and creating a warm and modern space sympathetic to the history of the site.
